Odyssey Dance Theatre announces its 2020-2021 Company Auditions

Odyssey Dance Theatre (Salt Lake City, UT) is casting its 2020-2021 season. Founded and directed by Broadway, Ballet West, Film and TV veteran Derryl Yeager, ODT is a professional Jazz/Ballet Company with performance opportunities including two home seasons in Salt Lake City, plus a European Tour in the Spring. Thayne, Matt, Natalie, Brandon, Gev, Tadd, Marcquet, Tanisha and Hailee from the popular “So You Think You Can Dance” television show are from this Company.

Odyssey is looking for strong Jazz/Ballet dancers who can also do Hip-Hop and Tap – male and female, ages 18-29. Available contracts include: a one-show contract for the fall production of the Halloween spectacular Thriller (runs Sept 1st to Nov. 1st), and/or the entire season (runs Sept-April/May 2021).

Due to the continuing issues with the COVID-19 Pandemic, Odyssey has decided to conduct the 2020 Season Company Auditions with the following protocols:

Odyssey will conduct the first round of local auditions via video submissions. Odyssey will provide a video of several dance combinations (Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Ballroom) that the dancer will learn and videotape themselves doing. Each of the combinations should be edited together and then posted and sent back to Odyssey along with their pictures and resumes for consideration.

Out of State submissions – Odyssey wishes to limit any personal travel required to attend this year’s audition. Therefore, anyone out of state should follow the above procedures to prepare their own submission. Also include any performance reels you might already have available. Odyssey will contact those they are interested in and schedule an interview via Facetime or Zoom.

ALL submissions should be posted to Odyssey no later than June 10th at Midnight.
Links to your video audition should be sent to Odyssey’s executive director Annie Van Alstyne – avanalstyne@odysseydance.com

We will be limiting the number of live auditionees to 20 – to allow for social distancing guidelines. From the video auditions, Odyssey will be choosing a maximum of 20 dancers to be called to a live audition call back on June 20th – Noon-6 pm. (352 W. 12300 S. Suite 400 – Draper, Utah 84020)

Those chosen will be informed by June 16th of their invitation to this live audition.

Those called to this audition should arrive early since Odyssey will have each auditionee’s temperature checked at the door. They must also bring a signed Odyssey COVID-19 Consent form to be able to participate.

Odyssey will have the dance studios and bathrooms disinfected and will have touchless anti-bacterial soap available in the bathrooms and hand sanitizer stations in the studios.

Each auditionee should have a mask available should current State guidelines require it.

Each auditionee should also bring their own water and snacks to the audition – the water fountains and vending machines will be off limits.

Odyssey will do their best to maintain social distancing guidelines during the audition.
