Odyssey Dance Theatre will round out its 25th year with its popular Shut Up & Dance series – three separate programs in repertory – before they head out for their 14th consecutive European Tour.
Odyssey’s Spring Repertory Season is where the dancers stretch their article muscle and create new, exiting works! This season will see the return of one of Odyssey’s favorite programs – Romeo + Juliet.
Chicago Nights – a full-length, world-premiere work that tells the story of Chicago in the 1920’s, when the specter of Prohibition gave rise to Speakeasys, Jazz and Gangsters.
And Reflections – 25 Years of Odyssey Dance will consist of a repertory Act I with world premiere works from Derryl Yeager and other amazing choreographers (TBA). And Act II, tribute to the late, great Prince!
This year’s Shut Up & Dance will truly be one of the most amazing ODT seasons ever – bringing back old repertory favorites and creating priceless new works – certain to be a dance lover’s buffet – with something for everyone!
Chicago Nights – Chicago Nights is a full-length, world-premiere work, directed and produced by Founder and Artistic Director Derryl Yeager, tells the story of Chicago in the 1920’s, when the specter of Prohibition gave rise to Speakeasys, Jazz and Gangsters. Men and women who brought corruption, racketeering, vice and murder to the headlines of the day. Al Capone meets Roxie Hart! And it all leads up to the most infamous mobster event of all – The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre!
Chicago Nights will be a unique show with an intoxicating variety of dance styles, techniques, passions and emotions! A collection of works by some of the most cutting edge choreographers of the day – from ballet to contemporary, jazz to tap, ballroom to hip-hop – this amazing group of dancers from Utah, USA will display not only their technical expertise and amazing versatility, but they will share these amazing stories of the 1920’s Chicago through the tapestry of dance styles available today.
Romeo + Juliet – Back by popular demand, see what the Deseret News said was, “…to die for!” A full-length work, based on the Shakespearean tale about star-crossed lovers, but in the Odyssey tradition: a hip-hop version! Choreographed by Odyssey Principal Eldon Johnson, along with sections by Ashleigh and Ryan Di Lello from “So You Think You Can Dance,” Derryl Yeager and others, this is a unique and powerful tour de force! Truly a highly charged and time honored story!
Reflections – 25 Years of Odyssey Dance
A collection of past pieces from the early years of Odyssey Dance Theatre which will include amazing works by Mia Michaels, Christian Denice, Eldon Johnson, Derryl Yeager and will close with the Bee Gees favorite – Dance Fever!
