Odyssey Dance Theatre (ODT) will round out its 20th year with its popular Shut Up & Dance series—two separate programs in repertory–before they head out for their 9th consecutive European Tour. Odyssey’s Spring Repertory Season where the dancers stretch their artistic muscle and create new, exciting works! This season ODT will present all-time favorites back by popular demand, including Romeo + Juliet and Dance Fever! This year’s Shut Up & Dance will truly be one of the most amazing Odyssey Seasons ever and will certainly be a dance lover’s buffet, with something for everyone!
February 13 at 7:30 p.m. and February 15 at 2:00 p.m.
The first act will include the return of Veronica Yeager’s tap piece, Clean Up Krew; and Derryl Yeager’s balletic works Andante, set to the music of Mozart, and his Solimbula, set to the music of Beethoven; as well as Former Company Member/Choreographer Christian Denice’s contemporary work Between Disconnect. The second act is Dance Fever! An expanded 40-minute tribute to the disco generation! Set to the music of the Bee Gees, this work is a crowd pleaser as they get to see their old favorites – Staying Alive, Emotion, More Than a Woman, Tragedy, How Deep is Your Love, and You Should Be Dancing. A fun and exuberant work that takes you back to the era of disco balls and white suits. Choreographed by Derryl Yeager, Allison Thornton, and Jessica Holker, this piece is a blast from the past.
Deseret News said, “Odyssey Dance Theatre’s Shut Up and Dance season only proves that it is a company to be taken seriously. Bravo!”
February 14 and 15 – 7:30 p.m.
Back by popular demand for the fifth year in a row, see what the Deseret News said was, “…to die for!” A full-length work, based on the Shakespearean tale about star-crossed lovers, but in the Odyssey tradition: a hip-hop version! Choreographed by Odyssey Principal Eldon Johnson, along with sections by Ashleigh and Ryan Di Lello from “So You Think You Can Dance,” Derryl Yeager and others, this is a unique and powerful tour de force! Truly a highly charged and time honored story!
