Odyssey Dance Theatre (ODT) will round out its 21st year with its popular Shut Up & Dance series—three separate programs in repertory–before they head out for their 10th consecutive European Tour. Odyssey’s Spring Repertory Season where the dancers stretch their artistic muscle and create new, exciting works! This season ODT will present the all-time favorites, back by popular demand, Romeo + Juliet and Carmen! Also, in their World Premier’s, Odyssey’s new Prodigals, and MJ. This year’s Shut Up & Dance will truly be one of the most amazing Odyssey Seasons ever and will certainly be a dance lover’s buffet, with something for everyone!

See what the Deseret News said was, “…to die for!” A full-length work, based on the Shakespearean tale about star-crossed lovers, but in the Odyssey tradition: a hip-hop version!  Choreographed by Odyssey Principal Eldon Johnson, along with sections by Ashleigh and Ryan Di Lello from “So You Think You Can Dance,” Derryl Yeager and others, this is a unique and powerful tour de force!  Truly a highly charged and time honored story!

Carmen

March 10, 2016 @ 7:30pm
March 12, 2016 @ 7:30pm
March 16, 2016 @ 7:30pm
March 19, 2016 @ 2:00pm

Carmen – An ancient story – a modern twist! Carmen, as you’ve never experienced it before, set in the world of the reality TV dance competition, with an amazing mix of music, utilizing the best of Bizet and Contemporary Pop classics. Yes, this story of Love, Passion, Betrayal, Obsession and Revenge is an old one, but mirrored in today’s headlines. Odyssey Dance Theatre’s brand new version of Carmen will be a contemporary choreographic masterpiece!

The Prodigals / MJ

March 11, 2016 @ 7:30pm
March 14, 2016 @ 7:30pm
March 17, 2016 @ 7:30pm
March 19, 2016 @ 7:30pm

The Prodigals – (World Premiere) – The story of the Prodigal Son is one of the most well known parables in the world but, so often, the story is retold from the younger son’s perspective. This version will also tell the story of the faithful older son and his struggle to forgive and live with the return of his wayward brother. The Prodigals is the story of both brothers and the struggle to find peace through forgiveness. The score will be an original composition created by local Emmy Winning Composer Sam Cardon and will be staged and choreographed by Artistic Director Derryl Yeager and Garrett Smith, a dancer/choreographer who was raised in Utah and has staged critically acclaimed works with New York City Ballet, Houston Ballet, and Ballet West.

MJ – (World Premiere) – MJ is a collection and celebration of the music of Michael Jackson, staged with the unique styles and concepts that are Odyssey Dance Theatre. Emmy Winning Choreographer Bonnie Story will bring her perspective from having worked with Michael Jackson numerous times to this 50-minute world premiere. MJ’s music had a unique and powerful impact that equaled his talent and presence, the likes of which the world will probably never see again!

Deseret News said, “Odyssey Dance Theatre’s Shut Up and Dance season only proves that it is a company to be taken seriously.  Bravo!”
